Mission
Lawyers With Depression, Inc. (LODI) was created in 2008 to provide lectures, presentations and seminars to national, statewide and local bar associations,law schools, lawyer organizations and the general public interested in the topic of depression in the legal profession.
Depression is an enormous problem in law schools and the legal profession. A study of law students found that 20% of them were struggling with clinical depression after their first year of law school. That number rose to 40% after their third year and remained at 20% after they had been practicing for two years. Click here to read more about law student depression.
A landmark study conducted by John's Hopkins University looked at 104 occupations to deteremine which ones had the highest incident of depression. Lawyers topped the list and were found to suffer from depression at a rate 3.6 times the rate of all of the other occupations studied. Click here to read the study.
